Ok we must confess we really do love weddings. Maybe it’s the look on the bride’s face when she is walking down the aisle, or that proud feeling when the wedding guests walk into the wedding breakfast room and the first thing they say is ‘Wow’.

But if we’re being honest we just love home-inspired weddings, it adds that ‘intimate and relaxed’ feeling to the wedding. To be able to get married at a family home is a true gift for any Bride and Groom.

Sometimes choosing a wedding venue can be really difficult. Brides and Grooms spend hours upon hours searching for that dream venue that ticks all the boxes. The beauty of a marquee wedding is that you’re essentially building a venue from scratch; it’s pretty cool when you think about it. You choose every little detail from the colour of the carpet that you will take your first steps on as Husband and Wife, to the choice of chair your guests will sit upon. Oh and we must say we are really big fans of the ‘chivari chair’; it’s kind of the crème de la crème of wedding chairs.

At Oyster we love being able to support your journey to the aisle. We met the lovely Lydia and Rhys through one of our partners, Donna from Pure Elegance Weddings & Events just over a year ago. From that first meeting we knew that Lydia and Rhys would be a perfect match for us at Oyster. We discussed and designed their dream bespoke wedding venue, we talked about the number of guests attending their special day as well as the overall theme and atmosphere they wanted to set. It was clear from the start they wanted an intimate, classy, informal and fun vibe to their wedding so we suggested a chill out zone were guests could relax and socialise. Both the Bride and Groom loved this idea, the chill out zone became a place for guests to take a well deserved break from all the dancing they had done. I suppose there are only so many times you can dance to Uptown Funk and Happy before you need a rest.

Another way Lydia and Rhys wanted to entertain their guests was through musical acts. They had two acts through the wedding; the first was the amazing duet of Liam McClair and Morgan Harper Jones who performed the song that Lydia walked down the aisle too, and kept the atmosphere and vibe going throughout the wedding breakfast. After all the singing through the day, the Bride and Groom choose the second act to be the wonderful Jonny Ross, a very talented saxophonist, who was even mingling with the guests on the dance floor during the night.

Because of the fun and carefree vibe the Bride and Groom chose they knew they wanted other ways to entertain their guests so they decided to create their own make shift photobooth with a variety of props as well as a ‘3D Selfie frame’ both add that fun quirky twist to their wedding day.

Even though Lydia and Rhys wanted a relaxed atmosphere they still wanted that classy feeling to their wedding. They choose an ivory fully pleated lined marquee for the wedding breakfast area; this added that touch of elegance and class, which they were looking for. To match their theme of fun, relaxed yet classy they managed to reflect that through their catering options. They decided to choose a formal starter and main course but a bespoke Afternoon Tea ‘Dessert Style’. This consisted of toffee cake, chocolate brownies with chantilly & raspberry, as well as scones with clotted cream and jam. Is anyone else getting hungry after reading Lydia and Rhys’s dessert choice?

One important aspect that sometimes gets overlooked is signage and lighting for an outdoor wedding. Before you start to drift off I promise you will really like this part. Not only was the wedding on a family property in Bromley Cross but also the sweet father of the groom built and designed all the signs that were guided the guests to the wedding. Because Lydia and Rhys wanted a vintage charm to their wedding day, they decided to choose festoon lighting to light the grounds surrounding Lydia’s stunning family home and marquee. The finished look was too picturesque for words.

The family property was amazing; a perfect venue to host a vintage inspired marquee wedding. Not only did we fall in love with the grounds but also the family home backed onto ‘Jumbles Reservoir’. Lydia and Rhys couldn’t have bought a better backdrop if they’d tried.

On the day of the wedding, despite the constant rain there were many appearances from Tilly. Who is Tilly you ask? Tilly is the families 7 year old Cockerpoo, she really enjoyed wondering around the grounds especially in the lead up to the wedding. Seeing so many people in her stomping ground must have been fascinating for her.

As you can tell from reading this blog, we love weddings; we love getting to know our clients. We make it our mission to make sure that every detail is perfect for the Bride and Groom. So we must say a big thank you to all our Bride’s and Groom’s for trusting us with your special day.
